In the thousand-year-old tale of The Arabian Nights, Scheherazade told nightly stories to keep the Sultan from executing her. Her ingenuity and creativity kept her alive. We have adopted her name to remind us of that vital importance of storytelling, and also to evoke the muse that endowed her with one thousand and one stories.

Storytelling is more than entertainment; it is how we make sense of the world. It is how we communicate the nuance and subtlety of the things of the world that are beyond mere words—love and joy, hope and glee as well as terror and outrage and pain and grief. Storytelling is the sugar, not just to disguise the medicine, but also just to please the soul with its sweetness.

Scheherazade Films is dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling in the film medium. Our mission is to develop and produce unique and wonderful films that will appeal to wide audiences throughout the world. We seek to collaborate with experienced producers to create independent films in the $2 –10M budget range. We also seek to nurture and develop emerging talent through ongoing, low cost experimental productions for a variety of exhibition formats.

Scheherazade Films was founded by Divi Crockett and Michael Wohl after a successful collaboration on the digital feature, WANT, completed in late 2003. They currently have more than six feature film and television projects in development.
